he main purpose of a volunteer drill is to take your standard pug and new to the game player and turn them into 20th GA privates. The most basic of concepts are covered in these drills. These concepts include:
Spawning Into The Game .Go over the spawn screen and explain the difference between flag and main spawn. Make sure they know how to locate our regiment and file in properly.,
Basic Button Commands. Fix bayonet, reload, at the ready, aim, fire, right shoulder shift, charge bayonet, take a knee/rise up, explain the "C" button and "shift" button for speed control, "T" button or HUD including how to locate the "star" and explain the F1 button,
Facing Commands. Cover left face, right face and about face. Explain the difference between a marching column and a battle line,
Basic Marching Commands 1.Cover all of these "at the quick time" then "at the double quick". Cover "oblique's", "by files", and "counter march",
Battle Lines. Cover forming a battle line from a stopped marching column. Walk through the process one man at a time, then as everyone at once. Cover basic forward marching in a battle line (teach to look at feet while marching) Explain "Guide Side" and "File Side" and explain how and what it means to "Dress",
Basic Marching Commands 2. Cover forming a battle line while on the move (explain how and why this must be done as fast a possible). Cover "Wheels" at the quick time and then at the double. Explain how to deal with momentum and continue to cover "Dressing the line"
Charge/Spear Wall Cover how to charge as a whole unit, stab once and keep moving making sure to press "T" in the process so as not to kill friendlies. Cover how to form a defensive spearwall and what each role in the spearwall is. Front row packed together so two men can get a kill fast. Rear rank DOES NOT STAB but waits to fill in for someone in the front rank who dies. Edges of the rear rank watch the flanks and call out enemy movements.,
Company Volleys Cover basic volley commands. Explain the 4 sets of targets. Explain why you don't automatically reload after shooting. Cover how to "break your reload",
If everything here is covered and the volunteer's have a good grasp on what is happening move to standard drill training
STANDARD DRILL
The purpose of a standard drill is to teach and build the regular enlisted rifleman into a Yankee killing machine who doesn't have to think because all of what is taught is just second nature to him. This advanced training includes:
Manual of Arms Teach F5-F8 and Present arms. F5 salute. F6 Order arms. F7 Parade rest. F8 In place rest. "P" Present arms.,
Advanced Marching Maneuvers Cover "By the Left/Right Flank into Line/Column" do this at the quick time and then at the double quick. Cover wheeling on the spot and on the move in difficult terrain. Cover battle line marching in rough terrain and over fences and how to fix the line as we move. Cover marching through the corn in column and battle line formations and remind the men to smash that "T" button so as not to get lost,
Momentum and Fast Stops Cover moving quick and stopping fast. Explain the momentum game mechanic and how to overcome it (quick time into spot/ tap the "W" key),
Advance Spear Wall and Charging Make sure every riflemen in the regiment is absolutely perfect in both of these. Explain how to charge as one unit not a bunch of individuals. We should smash into our enemies like a hammer into a nail and scatter the Yankee horde. Cover shoot and charge and the difference between a standard charge. Make sure to reform fast when the charge is called off. Spear walls should be formed fast no matter the situation, there should never be anyone breaking the spear wall to get kills. Explain the importance of "everyone as a whole" is the only way this formation works
Fence Training Cover loose formations on fences. One man per post on a straight fence and one man per knot on a snake fence. If we are at independent fire make sure not everyone is shooting at the same time. Cover backing off of the fence or wall when we get charged. Cover forming a spear wall from a loose formation, this can end up in a "blob" spear wall. A "blob" spear wall is not a bad thing so long as it is done very fast. Cover moving out and reforming ranks on the move from a loose formation, make sure guides are called out,
Advanced Shooting This is not the 19th 15th or 13th GA. We are the 20th GA and we absolutely pride ourselves on our marksmanship! BLOOD AND SOIL! Cover distance shooting from "300 hill", every single riflemen should be able to hit targets at this range. Cover firing by files and firing by rank. Remind them that these are the only times we auto reload and make sure NCO's call out the reload order. Cover spreading out the fire along the enemy line. Make sure the right side of the line is shooting the left side of the enemy line, the middle shoots the middle and the left shoots the right. Basically shoot the part of the line directly across from you.,
Friendly Competition If these afore mentioned skills have been covered without any problems let the boys have some fun while still learning something. School circle for 1v1 melee training and company shooting competitions are just a few ways to do this
